Join us for an engaging discussion on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 6:30 pm Central Time, as we welcome former Mayor of Chestermere, Alberta, Jeff Colvin, to our MST Zoom Meeting.
Jeff Colvin served as the mayor of Chestermere until he and three other city council members were dismissed from office by the Provincial Municipal Affairs Minister. The decision to remove Colvin and his colleagues has sparked controversy and legal action, as they argue that their dismissal contradicts the will of the voters who elected them in October 2021.

In a recent court hearing, Jeff Moroz, the lawyer representing Jeff Colvin, emphasized the adverse impact of their removal on the community of Chestermere. He argued that the appointment of an official administrator has led to the cancellation of contracts, policy reversals, and decisions that undermine the work of the former mayor and councillors.
During our Zoom meeting, Jeff Colvin will share insights into the legal battle and the broader implications for municipal governance and democracy. We will explore the challenges faced by elected officials in upholding the will of the voters and the importance of accountability in public office.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from Jeff Colvin and gain a deeper understanding of the issues at stake. Whether you're interested in local politics, civic engagement, or the principles of democracy, this discussion promises to be enlightening and thought-provoking.

Wins of the Week (4)
#1 Pick of the week Baby Eve’s passing is certainly a tragedy, but her legacy lives on with each life saved by the safe surrender locations that she inspired. On Christmas Eve of 2017, while many families gathered to commemorate the birth of Jesus, a tragedy was unfolding in the Calgary community of Bowness as a newborn baby was found deceased and discarded in a dumpster. In response to this tragic event, individuals who were personally affected by the story were moved to take action to ensure this wouldn’t happen again. Through their efforts, Hope’s Cradle was created to tackle the issue of unsafe abandonment. Hope’s Cradle is a safe surrender program that allows mothers and fathers to leave a baby that they are unable to care for inside a closely monitored drop-off location anonymously, with the knowledge that professionals will take care of their child. https://www.rebelnews.com/tragic_discovery_of_baby_eve_in_2017_inspires_safe_surrender_locations?
#2 Pick of the week A former SNC-Lavalin executive has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison in connection with a bribery scheme for a bridge repair contract in Montreal, the RCMP say. Normand Morin, once a high-ranking vice-president at the engineering firm, received the sentence Tuesday after his conviction for corruption and fraud last month. A police investigation revealed that SNC-Lavalin executives paid bribes of roughly $2.3 million in order to secure a $128-million contract to repair the Jacques Cartier Bridge deck in the early 2000s. In 2017, Michel Fournier, former CEO of the Federal Bridge Corp., admitted to receiving the bribes through Swiss bank accounts between 1997 and 2004. Mr. Fournier, who served as chief of staff to Jean Chrétien when he was Opposition leader in the early 1990s, was sentenced to five and a half years in prison and has since received full parole. SNC Lavalin rebranded their company name to Atkins-Realis on 13 Sept 23. The switch in names will be ratified by the shareholders in the annual general mtg this year. https://www.theepochtimes.com/world/former-snc-lavalin-executive-sentenced-to-prison-term-in-bridge-bribery-case-5637236
#3 Pick of the week DENVER — A couple who owned a Colorado funeral home where authorities last year discovered 190 decaying bodies were indicted on federal charges that they misspent nearly $900,000 in pandemic relief funds on vacations, cosmetic surgery, jewelry and other personal expenses, according to court documents unsealed Monday. The owners(Jon & Carie Hallford) of Return to Nature Funeral Home in Colorado Springs entered a federal courtroom bound in shackles as they made an initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Scott Varholak. https://sharylattkisson.com/2024/04/owners-of-colorado-funeral-home-where-190-decaying-bodies-found-indicted-on-federal-charges-for-covid-fraud/

What Our Logo Means
The logo for Manitoba Stronger Together incorporates elements that symbolize unity, community, and the strength of the bison.
Bison Icon: Is a silhouette of a stylized representation of a bison, symbolizing strength, resilience, and unity. The bison is depicted in a side stance, representing progress and moving together as a community.
The vertical stripes: represent that the movement includes all people from all walks of life, all beliefs and all political affiliations.
The Horizontal Connecting Lines: across the bison represent the connections and interdependence of community members, emphasizing the concept of being stronger together.
Blue Tones: The blue in the logo design represents growth, harmony, and the natural beauty of Manitoba's landscapes.
Dynamic Font: We choose a strong and modern bold font for the organization's name "Manitoba Stronger Together" to convey a sense of confidence and forward-thinking.
Let us continue to unite, ignite our passions, and work towards building a stronger and united Manitoba. Together, we will shape the future we want and deserve.
Keep an eye out for our next meeting announcement, and let us walk this transformative journey as one!
